Saint Piran Women’s Road Team awarded Elite Development Team status for 2024

The Saint Piran Women’s Road Team (WRT) has been awarded Elite Development Team status for the 2024 season by British Cycling.

This recognises the quality of support and race programme Saint Piran WRT is able to offer its riders, with the team set to race a full National Series programme alongside other high profile races, such as the British Team Cup. The team benefits from the infrastructure at Saint Piran Cycling, with access to support staff, team car and welfare support, including the team’s partnership with EDelia Group which provides a comprehensive wellbeing coaching programme.

Director of Cycling at Saint Piran, John Trott, says this reflects the ethos of the team: “Women’s cycling is progressing fast and it’s an exciting time to be involved in the sport. As a team our focus is on developing our riders and providing them with the support they need to reach their potential as athletes. It’s brilliant to have our commitment recognised and we’re enormously proud to have been awarded Elite Development Team status. We have some real talent in the team and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together this season.”

Saint Piran WRT was originally set-up in 2020 with just a small group of female riders within the Saint Piran structure. It has been operating as an elite team for the past three years, racing the National Road and Circuit Series competitively and taking on the European race scene.

The team for 2024 was announced last month, with returning riders, Hannah Bayes, Rachel Galler, Sophie Holmes and Ailsa McLagan, being joined by new signings, Stassi Bowler, Katie-Anne Calton and Elizabeth McKinnon. Full rider details can be found on our Women’s Elite Road Team webpage.

Their new Elite Development Team status adds to the continued success of the Saint Piran Cycling family, with its elite men’s team operating at UCI Continental level and it’s newly formed U23 squad, USKIS Saint Piran, also being awarded Elite Development Team status for the 2024 season.
